A man of such can only take so much.

Everyday, a soldier faces the tragedy and losses that we call death and destruction. He is put in front of the lines to make sacrifices so we don't have to. A true hero, and a man of honor and courage.

It's a sad thing to see these men and women, torn and stomped to the ground because they serve a 'worthless' war. Don't get me wrong, war is shit and it's a horrible thing -- but you're not necessarily going to get anywhere spreading daises and pansies and pussies around to the enemy, aren't you?

It's gotten to the point where nobody knows our history anymore, and who preserved it, and those who are creating history in order to make a better tomorrow. People are forgetting about the sacrifices made in order to keep them safe every day. No, instead you have these people going around cheering and jeering while a set of parents mourn for their son. It's disgusting, in my opinion. It's one thing to be expressing your freedom of speech, but stomping around a cemetery and praising a death of a man -- especially while his family is present -- is just plain asshole-ery (Forgive me, I lack a better word.). It'll be interesting to see if one of your posse dies, and someone does what you did to their family while YOU'RE mourning.

It's partially why I drew this. You don't see the tears because certain individuals Hollywood cough want you to think that these men and women are only heartless bastard children who have nothing better to do in their lives. Fuck that shit, man. Them fighting for my ass is the reason why I can live my life the way I do. At least soldiers have a real fucking reason to cry... and yet they don't. At least not in front of others.

So this Veterans Day, don't just thank a soldier or a veteran. Give them your highest regards. Give your grandpa, a veteran who served during WWII or the Korean War, a big hug. Treat your dad, who is a veteran in either the Vietnam War of the Gulf War, to a nice big dinner. Take the day off to spend it with your brother or sister, a soldier who went through our most recent war yet. Just tell them hoe much you love them and how proud of them you are.

Chances are it'll mean so much to them.

Sorry for my little rant there, I tend to get quite, er, passionate during holidays like this and Memorial Day... x'D So yeah. Happy Veterans Day.

And for those of you outside the U.S., Hope you've had a good Remembrance Day. The men and women who've served your country need love, too.

Nice piece! I really like the simplicity in the strokes and line art of the flag in the background. It works well and compliments the lone man. It's a very great piece, which tells a well thought out story, even if your words weren't there.

I couldn't have said what you did in your description any better. True spoken words, good job on both accounts!

I'm not a veteran of any kind, but I do reenact the Civil War. Often I have people tell me how stupid it is or monstrous that I would participate in such a thing. I do so, for many reasons, one being so fools like them can remember what happened and what sacrifices were made.

It also sickens me, like you said, that people have forgotten history. I've had people ask me the stupidest questions at reenactments. Ruling out the "Do you use real bullets" quote I get so often, the best one about history is someone thought we were reenacting WW2....I mean really?
